Alo Yoga Airbrush Real Bra Tank Review

Every woman knows, there are few things as validating as a compliment from another woman. I’m not talking about from your grandma or your best friends (who would/should hype you up regardless…), but from a perfectly random stranger-woman.

And that my friends, is what happened today. Rushing four blocks back to my car post-eyebrow threading in 95°F weather (aka face red and body sweaty), a woman passed me at a crosswalk, smiled and said, “I love your tank top!” After returning a smile and an emphatic “thank you!” I continued the rest of the walk, with lighter steps and a higher chin.

Basically, what I’m trying to say is… Alo Yoga’s Airbrush Real Bra Tank is my new favorite top and I’m ordering it in way more colors.

Alo Yoga is a yoga-centered athleisure, digital fitness, and beauty brand that stands for “air, land, and ocean.” They pride themselves on being ethical (“100% sweatshop free!”) as well as eco-aware, as they use low-water dyes and their headquarters and flagship stores run on solar power.

The Airbrush Real Bra Tank is a v-neck, racerback, crop top made of their signature Airbrush soft jersey fabric.

Let’s chat about:

What types of activities is the Airbrush Real Bra Tank best for?

So far, I have worn this tank hiking, strength-training, and lounging. Although the material is moisture-wicking, I would not recommend wearing this tank for high-intensity cardio workouts, since I think you’d sweat through it.

The tank has a built-in shelf bra with removable cups, so it would be best for activities requiring light-to-moderate support, such as yoga, pilates, lounging, strength-training, biking, or hiking. I would not recommend for CrossFit, running, cycling, or high-intensity interval training (HIIT) classes.

How does the Airbrush Real Bra Tank fit?

For reference, I am 5’0 and weigh around 100-105lbs. My bra size varies between 32-34A and for sports bras, usually wear a size small or a size 6 in Lululemon. I ordered the Alo Yoga Airbrush Real Bra Tank in a size small and feel that it was the right size.

I find it hard to size sports bras and athletic tops due to having both wider lats and smaller boobs; it’s very important to me that I don’t feel squished in a sports bra! I am curious how this tank would fit on women with larger boobs since there is such little support.

How much does the Airbrush Real Bra Tank cost?

The Airbrush Real Bra Tank costs $72. This is definitely on the more expensive side (Lululemon’s tanks generally cost around $58). I like to justify it with being the price for higher-quality as well hopefully more ethical and sustainable fashion.

How do you care for the Airbrush Real Bra Tank?

Machine wash cold with like colors and tumble dry low; do not dry clean. I’ve washed this tank a handful of times so far following these care instructions (you don’t need to tell me not to dry clean!) and I haven’t experienced any piling nor is the fabric feeling any less soft. I will note, the removable bra pads get lost in the wash (but this is normal, at least for me).

What are the Pros of the Airbrush Real Bra Tank?

  1. Very flattering. The v-neck shape gives me cleavage, which is almost unheard of for my boobs. The longline portion of the top isn’t awkwardly loose around the top of my stomach. And the best part: the tank doesn’t squish me in around my lats, minimizing bra bulge and the constricted feeling.
  2. Super comfy. Like… buttery-soft fabric. The material is smooth and thin without being too thin.
  3. Not too long, not too short. I think this tank hits at the perfect length! I have a shorter torso so tanks can be way too long on me and hit awkwardly between crop and full-length top.

What are the Cons of the Airbrush Real Bra Tank?

  1. Expensive. Even with the ethical and sustainable qualitiess, $72 is pretty steep for a tank primarily designed to get sweaty.
  2. May not provide enough support for women with larger busts. I can’t speak from experience, but I think the top provides just enough support for my A-cups.

Should you buy the Alo Yoga Airbrush Real Bra Tank?

I think you should buy this top if:

  • you have smaller boobs,
  • you feel good in crop tops,
  • your main exercise modalities are yoga, pilates, or lower-moderate intensity cardio,
  • you plan on also using this top doing day-to-day activities, and
  • you can comfortably afford and can commit to taking care of it according to the wash instructions.
