Lululemon Align Tank Review | Worth All of the Hype?

Lululemon Align Tank

The Lululemon Align range is one of the most hyped collections in the athleisure industry. I would go as far to argue it’s close-to-impossible to navigate fitness instagram (or even an IRL gym) without seeing someone donning the infamous Lululemon Align Leggings.

The Lululemon Align Tank is one of the newest products in the Align collection. Knowing the hype of the leggings (deserved, honestly), I had high expectations for the tank.

Lululemon Align Tank

Lululemon Athletica is an athletic apparel company founded in Vancouver in 1998. They created an Impact Agenda that centers around “Be human. Be well. Be planet.” via responsible supply chains and diversity and inclusion initiatives, yoga training for UN Humanitarians and scaling access to wellness tools, and using sustainable materials and limiting packaging waste.

The Lululemon Align Tank is a v-neck crop top made of their trademarked Nulu fabric.

What types of activities is the Lululemon Align Tank best for?

The Align Tank is primarily designed for yoga, but I’ve worn it for hiking, lifting, and day-to-day activities (perk of working from home!). The tank has a built-in shelf bra with removable cups and has a weightless feel without being thin. I can’t think of an activity I wouldn’t feel comfortable wearing this tank for!

How does the Align Tank fit?

For reference, I am 5’0 and weigh around 100-105lbs. My bra size varies between 32-34A and for sports bras, usually wear a size small or a size 6 in Lululemon.

I initially ordered the Align Tank in a size 4, since I normally size down in their tanks, but felt restricted in the arm-hole and lat areas. I sized up to a size 6 and — although I do find it more comfortable than the size 4! — I have a lot of extra room in the stomach area.

This may just be in the way my body is built (wider lats, smaller waist), but it’s not the most flattering on me. I do like that it is a bit longer on me (hits me slightly lower than my belly button, just wish it didn’t look almost as if it’s flaring out!

I will also note, the bra pads look a little… weird? I prefer wearing the Align Tank with the bra pads in for more support, but they often end up looking a little lumpy, which isn’t a problem I’ve had with similar tanks or bras with removable padding.

How much does the Align Tank cost?

The Align Tank costs $58. Although this is on the more expensive side than, say, Target’s athletic lines, it does seem standard in the industry for products of this quality (and for companies that don’t use sweatshops *sips tea*).

How do you care for the Align Tank?

Machine wash cold with like colors and tumble dry low; do not dry clean. I’ve washed this tank a bunch so far following these care instructions and I haven’t experienced any piling. Naturally, the removable bra pads get lost in the wash every time.

What are the Pros of the Align Tank?

  1. Flattering The v-neck and tighter-fit is flattering on a lot of body types. It also is a little longer for a crop top, for those who are less comfortable exposing their midriff!
  2. Variety of uses. This tank is multifunctional! You can wear to a workout class and then out to brunch; it’s cute in both contexts.
  3. Comfortable. Like the rest of the Align collection, the Align Tank is sooooft in a smooth, “naked” way.

What are the Cons of the Align Tank?

  1. The fit may not be for you. I would prefer if this tank was tighter around my waist. I would’ve probably not minded as much had I not found more tanks that hug my waist (see: Alo Yoga Real Bra Tank).
  2. Bra pads. I still do not understand why they look so lumpy!

Should you buy the Lululemon Align Tank?

I think you should buy this top if:

  • you have a larger chest or don’t plan to use the bra pads,
  • have similar lat and waist widths,
  • plan to use for a variety of workouts, and
  • prefer tanks for working out over (solely) sports bras.
